UMass Lowell Rocketry is an undergraduate student organization open to all students eligible to participate in student activities at UMass Lowell. As an engineering-focused group, we work closely with the Francis College of Engineering and the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. We are one of the largest engineering student organizations on campus.

GROUP LEADERSHIP

Joshua Barosin

Group President

Josh is a current Senior at UMass Lowell studying Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business Administration. Josh got into Rocketry at an early age, going to a High-Power rocket launch in the first grade, and since then, he was hooked. Josh got into the Club in 2021 as a freshman, earning his Level 1 Certification in April 2023 and his Level 2 Certification in April 2024. Josh has been one of the cornerstones of the club, providing experience, drive, and motivation for the club to grow into what it is today.

Sam DiVasto

Treasurer & IREC Lead

Sam is currently studying Chemical Engineering with a concentration in Nuclear Engineering. Sam’s fascination with rocketry started as a cub scout at the yearly launch day, eventually expanding into personal projects. This expanded into interesting his love for rocketry into high school SAE independent projects. Sam joined the club as a freshman in 2024, earning an L1 certification in his first semester and then an L2 in March of 2026. Raised by an Electrical Engineer, studying Chemical Engineering, and being a Mechanical Engineer at heart, he uses his multidisciplinary knowledge to assist in overall club operations.

Heather Brenton

Group Secretary

Heather is a Senior at UMass Lowell studying Computer Science with a concentration in cybersecurity. Heather joined the club in 2024 and has been a part of the club ever since. She is responsible for communications, records, and administrative tasks for the group.

Andrew Martin

Website and Digital Media Officer

Andrew is a Senior at UMass Lowell studying Mechanical Engineering. Andrew has been interested in space and rocketry since his childhood, and found a way to realize this interest through High Powered Rocketry. Since then, he has worked as the Principal Payload Engineer for the Competition Team, helping produce the first successful custom in-flight data acquisition system for the club. Andrew is also responsible for the creation and maintenance of the club's website and all logos and merchandise for the club.

Riley Mathieson

Group Public Relations Officer

Riley is currently a Senior studying Mechanical Engineering. Her interest in rocketry sparked her freshman year of college but originally began at the New England Dragway, watching Jet Cars Under the Stars. Since joining, Riley continues to expand her knowledge of rocketry and combine it with her love of motor vehicles. She joined March of 2024 and has since received her Level 1 Cerification in October of 2024. Riley hopes to aid in the growth of the club and continue to watch it succeed.

Ryan Melanson

Introduction Team Lead

Ryan is a Junior at UMass Lowell studying Mechanical Engineering. Ryan's interest in rocketry began his freshman year, stemming from his love for space and aeronautics. As Intro Lead, he manages the education of new members in rocketry, the In-Club Competition, as well as the L1 certification process. Having already helped many members to their L1 certifications, he hopes to continue to foster others' love for rocketry and help shape the future of the club.
